MIGOSI FAMILY FOCUS GROUPThe Migosi Family Focus Group is involved in rehabilitating the street boys and providing them with shelter, food, health care, education, and employment. When possible, we assist with reunification and reintegration with the family. The projects we are engaging in vary, depending on the needs, age and talents of the children. Usually individual counseling and group discussions are regularly offered. These meetings encourage the boys to speak out, to talk about their life and family experiences. It is most important to listen to the stories of the children fully and attentively. Many times in normal family or friendship frustration sets in because one or both parties do not feel understood or listened to and as these street boys go through crisis all they need is someone to talk to. It is a universal need to be listened to patiently and without judgment. We allow the street boys in crisis to talk about their situation and their feelings over and over again if needed. As a result of frustration in life most of them do not trust anyone, especially a parent. For this reason we use communication skills delivering them the right information and most importantly hope. The body language, including facial expression and eye contact must send a welcoming message, free of judgment and rejection. The street boys usually appreciate an open mind that listens carefully. Listening helps to built relationships, solves problems, ensures understanding, resolves conflicts and improves accuracy. The street boys often have the feeling of alienation; in their past and present life no one cared or showed interest in their personal problems. |
